.: Coal Mine Methane
What is Coal Mine Methane?
CMM is created when the methane escapes from
the walls of a coal mine. This is another type of Bio-Gas
that consists of very high concentration of methane (CH4),
this gas can be almost the same quality as pipeline natural
gas. Instead of allowing CMM to escape into the atmosphere
and pollute, it can be captured, converted, and used as an
energy source. Converting CMM into energy helps to reduce
hazards associated with emissions, and helps prevent methane
from migrating into the atmosphere and contributing to local
smog and global climate change, and ground water contamination.

Coal Mine Methane is a rather new source of
Bio-Gas that is being utilized for power generation. Our company
is dedicated to being a primary innovator in this market.
We are presently searching to find project sites and develop
systems. Bio-Gas Technologies has completed its first CMM
project, a 3.7 MW system in West Terre Haute, Indiana. This
is one of the first CMM projects in the United States.
The EPA's Methane Outreach Program estimated
that in 1999 there was $50 million in direct gas sales associated
with Coal Mine Methane projects.
